How to find the name of your Windows computer

In order to serve you in the most efficient manner possible, we will need to know which computer requires service, and the machine name is an easy first step.

If you're on a managed service plan, look at the system tray (bottom right corner of the screen) and look for the little orange & white life preserver. You might have to click on the small ^ arrow to show all icons. Once you find it, simply hover your mouse cursor above the life preserver and it will display text, something like "MACHINE NAME: Reception01".

If you aren't on a MSP, you can still find the machine name by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Click on Control Panel
  3. Click on System and Security
  4. Somewhere in the middle, under System, will be a small "see the name of this computer", click on it
  5. About 2/3 of the way down, your computer name and full name will be listed.

Please make sure to include the machine name (in addition to the best phone number to reach you at), when filling out a support ticket.
